EVES MATH CLUB
Fashioned after the famed MathCounts program but fitted for 5th and 6th grade students, our Math Club is meant to be challenging and fun.
CLUB STRUCTURE
Our Club Structure includes the following:

-
Short Lessons
-
Lessons can range from a fifteen-minute talk at the beginning of a club meeting to a half-hour-long lesson with practice problems.
-
-
Problems
-
Problems will range in difficulty and vary in format and style. Narrow themes are not beneficial to the students’ ability to recognize the type of a problem, which will aid them greatly in recognizing a solution to the problem.
-
Each problem will relate to your earlier presentation topic.
-
Some problems will seem nearly impossible to do at first. These problems often have a very simple solution if a different approach is used to solve it. Students will need to be familiar with the technique of stepping back a little and trying to solve a problem from a different angle. Eventually, the students will be able to attack problems from the simplest angle on their first try.
-
Many topics are advanced for many students and will be challenging and potentially discouraging. We always do our best to recognize which students are struggling to give them extra help during the problem set, and to answer any individual questions students may have.
-
Some of our Math Club Resources include:
-
-
Games/Puzzles
-
Occasionally, we will relax with a Puzzle or Game Day in lieu of a regular club meeting. Students can work collaboratively and have fun.
